That’s why the rumor tying Sadie Sink to Spider-Man: Brand New Day as a possible Jean Grey has Marvel die-hards split — because dropping an Omega-level mutant into a street story isn’t just a cameo. It ’s a hard left turn.

Jean isn’t the kind of hero who slips into the background. With world-bending telepathy and telekinesis — and, at times, the godlike Phoenix Force — her presence usually signals cosmic stakes or at least mutant politics. Historically, Spider-Man and Jean cross paths during big-team crossovers, not in Spidey-only tales where the focus is Peter’s personal life and bruised knuckles.

Street-level vs. Omega-level

• Save the team-up for a real event — Reunite them once mutants are on the board, during an anti-mutant crackdown or an Avengers–X‑Men crossover. That preserves Spidey’s neighborhood identity and lets Jean’s mutant saga build with the X-Men where it belongs.

There’s also the continuity wrinkle fans keep circling: with Hugh Jackman ’s Wolverine appearing as an older iteration in recent Marvel outings, introducing a much younger Jean first could raise timeline questions unless the studio is ready to plant flags on how mutants fit into the current MCU.

For now, the Sink-as-Jean chatter remains just that — chatter. Neither Marvel nor Sony has announced casting for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and the studio hasn’t revealed when Jean Grey will make her MCU entrance.
