Inside Meghan Trainor’s Weird Deep Dive on Her Last Tour
Meghan Trainor is pulling back the curtain on a rough stretch, saying her last tour veered off course mid-writing — a jolt she unpacked on the Sorry We’re Cyrus podcast.
Meghan Trainor just released a new album and, at the same time, admitted she has been quietly dealing with some heavy stuff. It all spilled out on a podcast this week, and it also explains why she pulled the plug on her upcoming tour.
What she said, and what she did not
On Thursday, April 23, the 32-year-old singer sat down on the podcast 'Sorry We're Cyrus' and talked about how the last tour got rough behind the scenes. She said that while she was writing in the middle of that run, something in her life took an unexpected downturn. She would not specify what happened, stressing that she is still in it right now and keeping details private to protect someone close to her.
'My life took a weird deep dive internally that I can't really talk about.'
That privacy line is firm for her: she does not want to blow up a family member's life by laying it all out publicly. At the same time, she frames the emotional core of the new songs as coming from a breakup she watched up close. She calls the person her best friend in one breath, then talks about shielding family in the next, so take that as a sign she is being intentionally vague to keep people out of the blast radius.
How it shaped the album
The new record is 'Toy With Me,' which landed Friday, April 24, and that personal turbulence is all over it. 'Get In Girl' comes straight from that huge breakup she witnessed. She also wrote 'Shimmer' as a self-love track aimed at the person going through it - and at herself. Trainor was candid about struggling with negative self-talk and having to rebuild her confidence daily, so she leaned into making songs that push back on that. She puts it simply: she needed this album, and she hopes it reaches anyone else who needs the same lift.
The tour is off - here is why
Her comments arrive a week after she canceled the Get In Girl Tour, which had been set to start in June. On April 16, she posted that after a lot of reflection and tough conversations, she decided to call it off. The honest reason: piling a nationwide tour on top of a new album rollout while also welcoming a new baby was more than she could handle right now. She said she needs to be home and fully present for all of it.
That family update: Trainor and husband Daryl Sabara welcomed daughter Mikey Moon via surrogate in January. They also have two sons, Riley, 5, and Barry, 2. She apologized to fans for the disappointment, promised she will be back, and said she is proud of the record and grateful for the support.

- Songs she highlighted: 'Get In Girl' (sparked by a breakup she witnessed), 'Shimmer' (self-love anthem)

- Reason for cancellation: balancing an album rollout, a nationwide tour, and a newborn - wants to be home and present

Bottom line: new music that doubles as a pep talk, a tour on pause for good reasons, and a pop star choosing privacy while still letting us know enough to understand the mood of the record.
