Sharpen those acorns—Ice Age stampedes back onto the big screen for a frosty prehistoric comeback.

Ice Age is stomping back into theaters, and yes, this one actually has a date you can circle in real ink. The new movie, Ice Age: Boiling Point, is set to hit the big screen only in theaters on February 5, 2027. Disney rolled out a trailer to make it official, and it pretty much screams: remember us, but hotter.

The quick version

  • Title: Ice Age: Boiling Point
  • Release: Only in theaters on February 5, 2027
  • Schedule shuffle: Moved from a previous December 2026 slot to February 2027
  • Franchise milestone: First Ice Age theatrical feature produced by 20th Century Animation after Blue Sky Studios closed
  • Who is back: The core herd returns with the voice actors who made them fan favorites
  • Trailer drop: Disney shared the first look across social media on June 4, 2026
  • Premise vibes: Less snow, more fire — volcanoes, lava, and a very not-chill landscape

The trailer: warmer fuzzies, hotter lava

The spot opens with Scrat, naturally, but with a twist: he is somehow a dad now. Watching the chaos gremlin of this franchise try responsible parenting is both funny and, unexpectedly, kind of sweet. Of course, this is still Scrat, so tender bonding time quickly gives way to the usual cosmic-level consequences.

And those consequences are big. Volcanoes detonate across icy vistas, lava chews through glaciers, and the world basically turns the movie’s subtitle into a status update. Melting has always been a thing for this series, but Boiling Point swaps slush for straight-up firestorms, which is a fresh kind of trouble for these characters.

We also get quick hits of Manny, Sid, Diego, Ellie, and Buck charging into a volatile corner of the Lost World that is crawling with dinosaurs and ringed by lava. Same survival panic, same found-family energy, but the heat this time looks a lot harder to outrun.

"OUCH! #IceAge: Boiling Point is coming in hot! Arriving only in theaters February 5, 2027."

Back on the big screen after 11 years

This is the first Ice Age movie to return to theaters in 11 years, which is a long nap for a mammoth. It is also a notable handoff behind the scenes: Boiling Point is the first theatrical Ice Age outing made at 20th Century Animation since Blue Sky Studios closed. Big franchise energy, new production home.

The possum problem that maybe was not

One subplot around this movie had nothing to do with erupting mountains. In October 2025, Seann William Scott suggested to The Direct that Crash and Eddie had been cut from the theatrical sequel, which set off the usual swirl of speculation about who gets to ride with the herd. Fans were split between wanting a tighter cast and not wanting to lose any history.

Fast-forward to the new trailer, and those worries look overcooked. The footage and the online chatter that followed strongly imply the possum brothers are still in the mix, which cooled down the debate and refocused attention on, you know, the whole world being on fire.

Bottom line: the Ice Age crew is back, the ground is literally lava, and the trailer sells a familiar hangout wrapped in a louder, hotter disaster movie. February is suddenly looking toasty.
