Hulk’s Fate in Spider-Man: Brand New Day Sets the Stage for Avengers: Doomsday

The Hulk showdown in Spider- Man: Brand New Day isn’t just a smash-’em-up — it ’s a mind game. The movie reveals that Jean Grey seizes control of Bruce Banner and sends him at Peter Parker. Banner fights the intrusion, but when Jean finally exits his head, the confusion strips away his calm and what’s left is the fully unleashed Savage Hulk.

Peter does try tech first — the universal inhibitor glimpsed in the trailers — but it can’t punch through Hulk’s skin. So he pivots, appealing to the part of the monster that’s still Banner, and it’s enough to end the rampage. By the aftermath, Banner is on a stretcher, loaded into an ambulance.

If you were expecting Hulk to pop up again right away, not so fast: the Hulk actor has confirmed he will not appear in Avengers: Doomsday.

Enter Jean Grey

The other mystery the film finally answers is Sadie Sink ’s role. Yes, Sadie Sink is Jean Grey — a reveal the production guarded closely even as fans traded theories. Marvel chief Kevin Feige said the character choice clicked once her name came up during casting.

“We had a Peter story that we wanted to tell, and knew that there were a number of characters that could fit into that. And it was Sadie’s name who came up that solidified the idea of the character that she’s playing,”

Sink didn’t go through a long audition gauntlet for the part. She’d previously worked with Destin Daniel Cretton on 2017’s The Glass Castle, a connection that may have helped the team picture her as Jean from the start.
