How do Billy Crystal’s grandkids recognize him? “Is Mike There?”
Billy Crystal is sharing what his grandkids call him—and the nicknames are as funny as you’re hoping.
On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Billy Crystal lit up when the conversation turned to his grandkids — and the nicknames they’ve given him from his own roles. As he told Fallon, the kids started addressing him by their favorite characters once they realized what Grandpa does for a living.
“Because when they started to understand, when they were little, who I was, they would call me as the character that they liked. So I would go, ‘Hello?’ ‘Is Mike there? Mike Wazowski there?’ … ‘I can’t tell you. Everybody okay?’”
Crystal voiced Mike Wazowski in Pixar ’s Monsters, Inc., and he said the grandkids also go with Miracle Max from The Princess Bride. The comedian is a grandfather of four, and he weaves stories about them into his new Broadway show.
‘860’ on Broadway
Crystal used his Fallon visit to share some news about 860, his personal Broadway outing. What was originally set to close on January 3, 2027 will now run through February 14, 2027.
In the limited engagement, Crystal reflects on his life, his family and friends, and the Los Angeles home he shared with his wife, Janice Crystal — a place he revisits onstage with humor and sentiment. He also addresses losing that house in the January 2025 Pacific Palisades wildfires, balancing the painful memories with the warm ones.
After an October debut, the extension keeps 860 on the calendar into mid-February, with Crystal continuing to fold family moments — including those grandkid nicknames — into the show’s story.
