Horror icon R.L. Stine’s the Babysitter adaptation arrives on Tubi in 2027
Heads up: one of R.L. Stine’s books is getting the screen treatment, with the adaptation set to hit Tubi.
R. L. Stine’s 1989 teen chiller The Babysitter is getting a live-action movie at Tubi, with a premiere planned for 2027 . The project teams Stine with Canadian banner Blue Ice, with filmmaker Jem Garrard set to both write and direct.
Who’s making it
- Writer-director — Jem Garrard
- Producer — Blue Ice
- Executive producers — Jem Garrard, Lance Samuels, Joan Waricha, Jane Stine
Based on one of Stine’s most enduring stand-alone novels, the film continues the streamer’s ongoing collaboration with the author behind Goosebumps and Fear Street. The Babysitter follows 16-year-old Jenny, who takes a babysitting job to help pay for a prestigious writing program just as a dangerous fugitive is on the loose. Soon, menacing phone calls start, paranoia sets in, and Jenny begins to suspect everyone around her.
The original book was first published in 1989 and spawned two sequels — The Babysitter II (1991) and The Babysitter III (1993) — that track Jenny’s attempt to move on from the first ordeal, only to be pulled into new scares.
“With The Babysitter, one of R.L. Stine’s most iconic novels, we’re delivering a fresh, fun thrill ride for longtime fans and a whole new generation,” said Adam Lewinson, Chief Content Officer at Tubi.
Tubi’s Stine slate is growing: alongside The Babysitter, the streamer has also announced plans to adapt Afraid of Clowns. The Babysitter is slated to stream on Tubi in 2027.
