Since its 2015 debut, Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir has vaulted from TV favorite to pop-culture juggernaut, stacking six seasons and 150-plus episodes—and now leaping to the big screen as the franchise builds its empire.

If you were waiting for a Ladydragon series, I have bad news: not happening right now. Thomas Astruc, the creator and director behind Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir, says the spin-off is not moving forward at the moment. He has not slammed the door shut forever, but for now, Fei Wu is staying on the sidelines.

What changed

Astruc posted on social media that the Ladydragon spin-off, which has been simmering in development for years, is effectively paused. He made it clear this is not his call to make personally, but he has put in the work and would still love to see it happen someday.

"My position is only creative; I have no power to greenlight any project myself, but maybe popular (friendly) pressure could work."

Quick refresher: who is Ladydragon?

Ladydragon debuted in the Miraculous World special set in Shanghai, officially titled 'Miraculous World: Shanghai, The Legend of Ladydragon.' The character is Fei Wu, raised in martial arts, street-smart, and initially operating as a thief. She crosses paths with Marinette during the special and teams up with the main heroes.

Yes, Astruc really had plans

This is the part that stings a little: there is a lot of material mapped out for Miraculous side stories, including Ladydragon. Astruc says he has already written and outlined a bunch of it:

  • A full spin-off bible for a Ladydragon series
  • A special episode set in Brazil
  • A separate spin-off bible for a show set in Brazil
  • Notes on how the world from Shadybug operates
  • Backstory on how Majestia and Knight Owl first met
  • Additional history on various ancestors in the universe

"The show you know is only the tip of the iceberg. I hope one day stars will align and all of these will be greenlighted. Maybe fans could help create such alignment. Fingers crossed."

Where Miraculous stands right now

Meanwhile, the main series is still a juggernaut. Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir premiered in 2015 and has grown into a full-on empire: six seasons so far, more than 150 episodes, a theatrical release, and spin-offs like Miraculous World and Miraculous: Stellar Force. Season 6 is currently rolling with several episodes still to go before the finale. The franchise is already locked for a total of 10 seasons, and the team has said they want to go past that. There is even a live-action stage play hitting this year, because of course there is.

So, will Ladydragon ever get her own show?

Short version: not now, maybe later. The character made a strong first impression in Shanghai, there is real groundwork written for a series, and Astruc clearly wants to do it. If the brand keeps scaling up (and fans make noise), Ladydragon could still get her shot. Just not today.
