Guy Gardner enters Lanterns episode 6 as John Stewart probes Hal Jordan's death
Lanterns Episode 6 saves its biggest swing for last—a hidden legacy roars back.
Jumping back to 2026 , the episode catches up with John Stewart trying to build a normal life. He runs Stewart Brothers with his brother Marcus, pitching Midway City on fortified underground shelters designed to protect thousands if the next superpowered disaster hits. That plan derails when John’s mom, Bernadette, says Hal Jordan wants to apologize.
John meets Hal in the same Rushville café where their partnership first went sideways. Hal argues prison time cleared his ledger; John rejects that idea, throws a punch that breaks Hal’s nose, and agrees to keep the meeting quiet. Moments later, Sheriff Kerry Kane calls: Hal has been found dead at the town football stadium.
Kerry fills in the gaps of Hal’s low-profile return to Rushville. He’d been knocking on doors, offering help even when the town wanted nothing to do with him — and he’d quietly reentered Kerry’s life, a relationship John never knew about. The autopsy says Hal died from a 9mm gunshot to the head, likely facing his killer. The broken nose complicates things further, because John knows exactly how it happened.
Secrets in storage
A clue in Hal’s effects sends John and Kerry to a storage unit hiding a high-tech vault connected to a pocket dimension. It needs Hal’s living voice to open, so Kerry tries an old voicemail. No dice — another locked door in Hal’s maze of secrets.
When John lights the Green Lantern beacon in Rushville, it brings the wrong kind of company: townspeople who blame the Lanterns for everything that went wrong. John fends them off, but Kerry still books him. And that’s when an uninvited guest lands.
Guy Gardner crashes the case
Nathan Fillion strides in as Guy Gardner, full of swagger and jokes straight off the comics page. John asks him to help investigate Hal’s murder; Guy shrugs it off on PR grounds:
“Bad optics.”
He does, however, lay out the ring situation. Hal’s original ring was decommissioned and placed on Oa. After John walked away years ago, the Guardians forged a new one for Guy — which is why his doesn’t match Hal’s. Then he drops a bigger problem: Sinestro has broken out of space prison.
John convinces Guy to at least bring Hal’s uniform and ring for the funeral. The service is small and quiet: John, Kerry, and Carol Ferris in the present, a direct line to Hal’s comic history. Carol hands John a eulogy Hal wrote for himself — a speech expecting a public send-off — and John reads it at the grave, weighed down by anger, guilt and whatever love is still there.
The Halogram twist
After telling Kerry he’ll stay in Rushville a few more days to settle Hal’s affairs, John returns to the cemetery alone. He digs up the coffin, takes the ring and slides it on. There’s barely any charge left, but it’s enough to spark something unexpected: not a construct, but a recorded projection of Hal — a “Halogram” — staring down at his own body and blurting a stunned curse.
How much memory this projection holds isn’t clear, but the implications are. John now has a direct line to a version of Hal preserved in tech, and a potential key to that sealed vault.
