What the film actually covers
This is not just a jukebox. The doc walks through the wins, rough patches, and flat-out personal wreckage that ran alongside the music. The big get is a rare sit-down from 2014 — recorded three years before his death — that threads through the story.
James Keach directs. He says he went in cold on Allman and the Allman Brothers Band — not exactly a superfan assignment at the start — and only signed on after a push from his wife. Once he was in, he started spotting parallels to his own life, and the piece that hooked him hardest was the bond between Gregg and his brother, Duane.
That brotherhood is the spine here: Gregg and Duane formed the Allman Brothers Band in 1969 and hustled it into a giant. Beyond the band, Gregg kept a solo lane going with eight studio albums. If you only know the radio staples, the film fills in how those songs came out of a pretty volatile existence.
