Florence Pugh earns "To the Nth Degree" praise from Christopher Abbott on East of Eden
Christopher Abbott opens up about teaming with Florence Pugh on East of Eden — and he doesn't exactly play it coy.
On the Rolling Stone podcast, Christopher Abbott looked back on working with Florence Pugh on an East of Eden project and tried to put into words what it ’s like to share a scene with her.
“My litmus test for any actor is just, it's simply like, are they there in the room with you? And you feel like something is happening in the room. And Florence does that to the nth degree.”
Abbott and Pugh first connected on the Steinbeck-inspired adaptation and, more recently, inside the Marvel machine. He praised her presence as something you feel in the moment, not just on camera.
Marvel overlap
Both actors are now part of the MCU, though not necessarily in the same corner. At Disney ’s D23 showcase earlier this year, Marvel announced Abbott will step in as Professor X in its upcoming X-Men movie. Asked on Rolling Stone whether that meant a quick hop into the next Avengers film, Abbott kept it simple.
“I gotta do the ‘X-Men’ movie first before any of that stuff.”
Per the D23 presentation, here’s what Marvel laid out for X-Men:
- Release date — May 5, 2028
- Director — Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts* )
- Cast — Sadie Sink as Jean Grey; Kit Connor as Cyclops; Adam Driver as Mr. Sinister
