Amy Schumer’s next comedy takes a raw swing at modern separation — and it’s packing a title you’ll want to hear.

A couple called Clarissa and Franklin decide to end 20 years of marriage with a bang: they throw a celebratory party to kick off their single lives. The plan backfires into a minefield of disastrous dates and skeptical kids, and the real test becomes keeping the family intact even as the marriage ends.

Amy Schumer will star in and produce the new comedy Best Divorce Ever, written and directed by Sean Mullin, with sales launching at the Toronto International Film Festival, as first reported by Variety.

What the movie ’s about

Mullin’s film aims to flip breakup tropes on their head, treating divorce less like a failure and more like a complicated, ongoing relationship — especially when kids are involved. Or, as the logline puts it:

Figuring out how to stay a happy family is where things get complicated.

The writer-director isn’t shy about the movie’s mission statement.

Divorce has a branding problem.
I think we need to change the narrative that the only successful way to end a marriage is for one person to die.

Who’s making it

Indie banner Vanishing Angle is producing alongside Concourse Media, which is also financing and handling sales. Concourse executive Matthew Shreder said the material is tailor-made for Schumer’s voice.

Amy is one of the few people who can take something as painful as divorce and make it brutally honest and incredibly funny.

Producers Matthew Lee Miller and Natalie Metzger added their vote of confidence in the collaboration.

Amy brings that same fearless honesty to everything she does, and we couldn't be more excited to reunite with Sean and partner with her as both a producer and performer to bring this film to life.

Schumer, an Emmy winner, previously fronted and produced big-screen comedies like Trainwreck (2015) and I Feel Pretty (2018). Casting beyond Schumer hasn’t been announced.

U.S. distribution and a release date are still to come, with sales kicking off at Toronto.
