Discover My Brilliant Career’s filming locations, the actual spots used in the Netflix film
If you’re craving the real-life backdrops behind Netflix’s My Brilliant Career, the filming sites are ready to scout before its August 2026 premiere.
To stand in for the grand homesteads in Netflix ’s My Brilliant Career, the production moved into Yallum Park, a Victorian-era mansion near Penola in South Australia. Built between 1878 and 1880, its preserved interiors and gardens give the show the kind of lived-in period detail you can’t build from scratch.
The six-part adaptation filmed entirely in South Australia. Adelaide Studios handled most interior work, with additional shooting around metropolitan Adelaide to fill out Sybylla Melvyn’s fictional world. Beyond the city, the team chased wide horizons and working farms to match the novel’s early 1900s setting.
On-location in South Australia
The countryside did a lot of the heavy lifting. The Southern Barossa region supplied rolling paddocks and open bush that echo Miles Franklin’s descriptions, making the landscapes feel like characters in their own right.
- Adelaide Studios — primary base for interiors.
- Metropolitan Adelaide — city-area locations for additional scenes.
- Southern Barossa — sweeping paddocks and bushland for rural exteriors.
- Yallum Park (near Penola) — a Victorian mansion built 1878–1880, with period rooms and gardens standing in for grand homesteads.
Filming kicked off in mid-2025. Produced by Jungle Entertainment, the series reimagines Miles Franklin’s 1901 coming‑of‑age novel, following aspiring writer Sybylla Melvyn against a turn-of-the-century rural backdrop.
