Director hasn't read ‘Fast Forever’ — but Vin Diesel moved to tears by the script
Fast Forever’s script brought Vin Diesel to tears — but there’s a twist with its director.
While out promoting his Netflix thriller The Last House, director Louis Leterrier said he still hasn’t read the latest draft of the Fast Forever script — the same one Vin Diesel has raved about. Speaking to Polygon on August 3, Leterrier confirmed he’s in the dark for now about what’s on the page from writer Mike Lesslie.
“I’d love to tell you the full truth, but I can’t.”
Leterrier has said in a separate conversation with The Hollywood Reporter that he’s “contracted” to direct the finale and suggested the holdup is about aligning the movie ’s scope with current box office realities. Even without cracking the script yet, he hinted the ending delivers and thanked Universal and Diesel for the chance to close out the run.
Where things stand
In March 2026, Mike Lesslie was set as screenwriter on Fast Forever, reworking earlier drafts by Aaron Rabin and Zach Dean, according to Variety’s reporting. Diesel, meanwhile, has gushed that the new script moved him to tears and called it the best he’s read in decades.
The setup from Fast X
Fast X (2023) ended on a cliffhanger and tucked two stingers into its credits, signaling the franchise wanted to put some of its heavy hitters back in play for the finale — including Gal Gadot and Dwayne Johnson.
