Did Deadpool just spoil X-Force for Avengers: Doomsday at San Diego Comic-Con?
New chatter around Avengers: Doomsday points to one more mutant squad muscling into the already jam-packed crossover: X-Force.
The rumor, sparked by Comic-Con talk and recent leaks, suggests Ryan Reynolds ’ Deadpool won’t be the only carryover from his corner of the universe — the black-ops mutant team could make its first proper MCU appearance in the 2026 event, Doomsday.
If that happens, it would be a reset from the gag version we met in Deadpool 2, where Wade assembled a team for a single disastrous mission and most of them didn’t survive the jump. With the MCU’s multiversal door now propped open for Deadpool, there’s room to rebuild X-Force with a lineup closer to the comics.
So, who are they?
On the page, X-Force started as Cable’s answer to the X-Men: a covert strike team willing to use harder tactics to protect mutantkind. Over time, the roster and leadership rotated — Cable led early on, with stints from Cyclops and Wolverine steering later incarnations. Core names fans associate with the team include:
- Cable — time-traveling soldier who founded the group
- Domino — luck-powered mercenary and frequent second-in-command
- Deadpool — the chaotic wildcard on several runs (notably Uncanny X-Force)
- Wolverine — fronted the black-ops era lineup
- Psylocke — telepathic assassin and team anchor
- Archangel — razor-winged heavy with a lethal edge
- Warpath — powerhouse tracker
- Boom-Boom — explosive-maker from the New Mutants class
- Shatterstar — Mojoworld swordsman
- Cannonball — blast-field flier from the New Mutants
How Deadpool 2 used them
Deadpool 2 introduced an X-Force lineup that played the idea for laughs — featuring Domino (Zazie Beetz), Bedlam (Terry Crews), Shatterstar (Lewis Tan), Zeitgeist (Bill Skarsgård), Vanisher (a blink-and-you-miss-it Brad Pitt cameo ) and Peter (Rob Delaney). It was short-lived by design, teeing up a future team-up that never happened.
In Deadpool 2, most of X-Force dies within minutes of their debut; Domino is the lone survivor of the parachute mission.
That swerve had a practical reason at the time: Fox was developing a full-on X-Force spinoff as the next step in its X-Men universe. When Disney bought 20th Century Fox in 2019, those plans were shelved and the characters folded into Marvel Studios’ sandbox instead.
What it could mean for Doomsday
Leaks around Avengers: Doomsday already point to a multiverse-sized roll call — legacy and new Avengers, the X-Men, and the Fantastic Four are all rumored to collide, with Doctor Doom widely speculated as the big bad. In that context, deploying X-Force as a hit squad alongside Deadpool would be an easy on-ramp for more mutants to enter the MCU proper.
For now, Marvel hasn’t officially announced X-Force for the movie. Avengers: Doomsday is currently targeting a December 2026 release.
