Deadpool creator crowns Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel a masterpiece — and takes aim at Iron Man 3
Rob Liefeld reignites the Marvel-DC skirmish, tagging Iron Man 3 overrated and elevating Man of Steel to masterpiece status, as Zack Snyder salutes fans with a viral post.
Rob Liefeld loves to stir the pot. The Deadpool co-creator has praised, roasted, and outright trolled Marvel over the years, and now he is back at it on Instagram — this time boosting DC while taking a swipe at some Marvel mainstays. If you are wondering why your timeline suddenly turned into a superhero cage match, yeah, that is why.
What set him off this time
Liefeld posted a quick Instagram bit built around a simple rule: he would pop a balloon only if the movie on screen was 'better' than Zack Snyder's Watchmen. Basically, the clip turned into a rolling referendum on superhero (and, randomly, one Star Wars) titles, with Watchmen as the bar to clear.
- Zack Snyder's Justice League: Let it roll by. No balloon, no upgrade over Watchmen.
- Attack of the Clones: Also passed. Odd inclusion in the lineup, but he kept it moving.
- The Batman: Another no. Respectful shrug, but no pop.
- Iron Man 3: This one drew heat. He called it 'overrated' and moved on.
- Ant-Man: Stayed loyal to Watchmen. No change.
- Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings: Same story. Watchmen still on top.
- Thor (the first one): Nope. No balloon.
- Man of Steel: This is where he flipped the switch and gave Snyder the crown over Snyder.
"Only Snyder can beat Snyder, and Man of Steel is a masterpiece. Say it together, repeat it often."
Why this hits a nerve
Liefeld has a famously complicated thing with Marvel: he helped give them one of their most bankable characters, but he has never hesitated to knock the movies, the creators, or the corporate calls when they do not line up with his taste. So watching him defend Watchmen, dismiss Iron Man 3 as 'overrated,' and then declare Man of Steel the champ is very on-brand — and guaranteed to kick off another round of Marvel vs. DC sparring in the comments.
Bottom line: he is planting his flag on Snyder Island. Marvel entries — even some crowd-pleasers — did not measure up in his game. DC did, but only when Snyder was involved.
