Days Before Canceling Her Tour, Meghan Trainor Said Family Touring Was Chaos
Just days before canceling her Get In Girl Tour, Meghan Trainor told Us Weekly she was ready for the beautiful chaos of taking husband Daryl Sabara and their three kids on the road — thrilled yet nervous.
Well, that changed fast. Days after talking up the joy-and-chaos of taking her whole family on the road, Meghan Trainor just canceled her summer tour.
From big family plan to hard stop
In a recent interview, Trainor, 32, sounded excited and a little terrified about bringing her crew on tour with her husband, Daryl Sabara, and their three kids: Riley (5), Barry (2), and newborn daughter Mickey (3 months right now, which would have made her about 6 months old once the tour kicked off). She knew the shows would be a blast and also completely draining, and she admitted the idea of traveling with a not-quite-half-year-old was a wild card.
She joked that middle child Barry is very emotional — the family nickname is, yes, Scary Barry — and that Riley has a singular mission: hit every tall building in the U.S. This summer would have doubled as a skyscraper scavenger hunt, with Mom trying to sweet-talk her way to every rooftop between shows.
To keep the circus from tipping over, Trainor planned to bring in her mom, Kelli, as the on-the-road safety net. The job description was not glamorous: once the kids were down and the show was over, Mom would help her peel off the stage, literally — shower, hair, meds, the whole reset.
The pivot
Then, on Thursday, April 17, Trainor announced on Instagram Stories that the tour is off. The short version: putting out a new album, prepping a nationwide run, and caring for a brand-new baby at the same time turned into too much.
"After a lot of reflection and some really tough conversations, I have made the difficult decision to cancel the Get In Girl Tour."
She apologized to fans, said the choice is right for her family right now, promised she will be back, and teased that she is genuinely proud of the new record.
What was on the calendar
- Album: Toy With Me is set to drop Friday, April 24.
- The tour: The Get In Girl Tour had been scheduled to run June 12 through August 15.
- Traveling party that was planned: Husband Daryl Sabara; kids Riley (5), Barry (2), and baby Mickey (3 months now, would have been ~6 months on the road); plus her mom, Kelli, as de facto nanny and post-show triage team.
It is a bummer if you had tickets circled, but given the newborn-plus-album timing, the call makes sense. She says she will be back soon — and in the meantime, the new music is still around the corner.
