David Charvet Under Fire After Allegedly Hitting Dog With His Pickup
Former Baywatch star David Charvet, 53, is accused of striking a dog with his pickup in a gated Malibu community just before 6 a.m. Thursday, April 16, according to dog walker Vera Errico in an interview with TMZ.
Not the Baywatch rerun anyone expected: David Charvet is at the center of an ugly situation in Malibu involving an early-morning drive, a dog named Sunday, and a lot of questions.
What allegedly happened
Vera Errico told TMZ that around just before 6 a.m. on Thursday, April 16, she was walking her three dogs inside a gated Malibu community when Charvet, 53, came through in a pickup truck. She says the truck hit one of her dogs and he did not stop. Errico believes he drove out of the community and called the police afterward.
The dog, an 11-year-old white English Labrador named Sunday, was rushed by Errico and her husband to a vet, where the animal was euthanized.
- Allegation: Charvet struck Sunday with his truck and kept driving, per Errico
- Timing: Just before 6 a.m., Thursday, April 16
- Location: A gated community in Malibu, California
- Aftermath: Sunday was taken to the vet and euthanized
- Charvet’s stance: Told TMZ he had "no comment"
- Law enforcement: Lost Hills sheriff station has spoken with Errico; a "traffic collision" report is being taken, not a hit-and-run, because Charvet called authorities after the incident, per TMZ
How police are handling it
According to TMZ, the Lost Hills sheriff station (which covers parts of Malibu) has been in contact with Errico. The key detail: deputies do not consider this a hit-and-run because Charvet called it in after it happened. Instead, they’re filing it as a traffic collision. Us Weekly says they have also asked the station for comment.
Charvet’s response
Charvet gave TMZ a brief "no comment." Us Weekly says they’ve reached out to his camp for more.
The Malibu connection
This story has a behind-the-scenes wrinkle: Charvet is deeply tied to Malibu beyond his TV past. He’s a partner at Jones Builders Group, a high-end residential contractor in Los Angeles. On the company site, he talks up building homes that last and treating the house as a kind of stage for life — the whole premium-craftsmanship vibe.
After destructive wildfires hit the area in January 2025 — the Palisades fire burned large sections of Pacific Palisades, Topanga, and Malibu — Charvet publicly vowed to help rebuild. In February 2025, he posted:
"Don’t get it twisted by the possible sadness in my eyes. There is a determination and a fire roaring in my soul to rebuild my city #malibu. Let’s all work together and help each other!!"
Where you know him from
Charvet played Matt Brody on the original Baywatch and later Craig Field on Melrose Place from 1996 to 1998 before stepping back from acting. In a July 2025 People interview, he said he doesn’t miss the spotlight or the grind and gave props to actors who manage to juggle that workload with family life.
Bottom line: one side says he hit a dog and didn’t stop; police say it’s not a hit-and-run because he called it in; and the dog’s owners lost their 11-year-old Lab. We’ll see if more surveillance, witnesses, or official reports fill in the gaps.
