Could Odette Annable and Husband Dave Be Teaming Up After Her Hallmark Film?
Odette Annable makes her Hallmark leading-lady debut in Kentucky Roses — and she’s already eyeing a family encore, hinting husband Dave Annable could be next after the pair’s fun turn in a Christmas rom-com.
Odette Annable just made it official: she is now a Hallmark leading lady. Her first rom-com for the network, 'Kentucky Roses,' arrives the same day as the Kentucky Derby, because of course it does. And yes, everyone immediately wondered if her husband, Dave Annable, is next in line for the Hallmark-ification treatment. Short answer: maybe later.
So, is Dave Annable joining Hallmark?
Odette, 40, says she would absolutely love to team up with Dave, 46, for a Hallmark movie down the road. They have worked together before — they even shot a Christmas rom-com and had a great time — but right now Dave is tied up filming season 3 of 'Lioness' for Paramount+ in Fort Worth, Texas.
'He likes working with me more than I like working with him,' she joked, adding that since they are together all the time at home, she is perfectly happy flirting with other leading men on camera.
Bottom line, if the right Hallmark opportunity pops up for both of them, they are in.
The Derby plan (and the slightly messy timeline)
Odette and Dave share two daughters, and she says the couple plans to do the Kentucky Derby together for the first time in 2026. Meanwhile, 'this year' the Derby lands on the same day 'Kentucky Roses' premieres. Yes, that timing sounds a little tangled, but the gist is: the movie drops on Derby day, and their first in-person Derby together is on the calendar for 2026.
What 'Kentucky Roses' is actually about
Odette plays Sadie Moore, who comes from a long line of greenhouse workers at Churchill Downs — and the production filmed in a real greenhouse on site. Sadie, though, is leaning more florist than grounds crew. Over the course of the story she pushes to find her lane, set actual goals, and chase a purpose that is hers, not just her family ’s.
Romance is not on Sadie’s to-do list, naturally, until she meets Ash Taylor (Andrew Walker). Odette calls their connection fun, beautiful, and refreshingly organic — with some literal fireworks tossed in for good measure.
Andrew Walker’s angle (both on and off screen)
Walker, who has been a Hallmark mainstay since his 2012 debut, says he has been trying to get this specific movie made for a while thanks to a very Hallmark-y bit of behind-the-scenes serendipity: he knows someone from Kentucky whose family member is the CEO of Churchill Downs. That connection helped set the table for filming at the track.
His character Ash is the guy who goes after what he wants — except he also swore he would never return to work for his dad. Then one of Churchill Downs’ iconic spires is damaged two weeks before the Derby, Dad calls, and Ash agrees to come back for a short stint to fix the spires. While he is there, he crosses paths with Sadie, and you can guess where that goes.
The official hook
Hallmark’s logline boils it down: a greenhouse worker and the son of the track’s CEO team up to save the Kentucky Derby’s rose blanket and, along the way, uncover a generational love story. Shot on location at Kentucky’s Churchill Downs.
