Netflix’s next animated outing flips the fairy tale, giving Cinderella’s stepsisters the mic — and a chance to set the record straight.

Chaos kicks off fast in the new trailer for Steps: Lilith, one of Cinderella’s much-maligned stepsisters, snatches a fairy godmother’s wand and immediately zaps her sister Margot into a frog. What was supposed to be a quick scheme to crash the Royal Ball spirals into a full-on magical mess, with spells backfiring and consequences hopping in every direction.

The screwups open the door for Priscilla — a polished, scheming mean girl — to grab the throne. With Margot stuck as an amphibian and the kingdom under the wrong ruler, Lilith has to partner up with Cinderella. Their rescue mission barrels through the Screaming Woods, past biker trolls, and away from royal henchmen, all to the beat of an irreverent, song-filled adventure.

  • Lilith — impulsive stepsister whose stolen wand starts the chaos
  • Margot — unlucky sister turned frog
  • Cinderella — the unexpected teammate with the plan
  • Priscilla — the social-climbing usurper aiming for the crown
  • Prince Charming — played by Daniel Radcliffe in a first-look reveal

Netflix Animation milestone

Beyond the fairy-tale flip, Netflix is using Steps to plant a flag: it ’s the first feature made entirely inside Netflix Animation Studios. Previous Netflix animated standouts like Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio and Nimona were produced with outside partners; this one is homegrown from top to bottom.

Steps is the first feature produced entirely by Netflix Animation Studios.

The footage leans hard into bright CG visuals, musical comedy, and creature-loaded set pieces — a family- friendly package Netflix is slotting for the Thanksgiving and holiday stretch. Think fractured fairy tale energy over glass-slipper elegance, with the “villains” finally taking the wheel.

The trailer is streaming now on Netflix’s channels, arriving alongside a fresh first look at Radcliffe’s Prince Charming. The film is positioned for the Thanksgiving/holiday window on Netflix; an exact premiere date wasn’t included with the trailer.
