Christopher Nolan reveals his new movie-night buddy is a Gen Z favorite
Christopher Nolan opens up about movie nights with Robert Pattinson — as The Odyssey takes off worldwide at the box office.
During a recent Access Hollywood chat, Christopher Nolan let slip a small but charming detail about life off set: he and Robert Pattinson live near each other in Los Angeles and occasionally schedule low-key movie nights. What started as a director –actor rapport on one project has turned into a neighborly hangout that sounds as casual as it gets.
“Rob and I, we’re old friends at this point. And we actually became neighbors ... so we have the odd movie night together and stuff,”
Their friendship traces back to Tenet, where Pattinson’s turn as Neil became one of the film ’s most debated elements among fans. Nolan then brought him back for The Odyssey , casting him as the antagonist Antinous — another puzzle-box role that plays to Pattinson’s sly, off-kilter screen presence. That collaboration runs parallel to Pattinson carving out his own path as Batman on the big screen.
Nolan also gave a quick shoutout to Pattinson’s life at home, telling the outlet that he’s fond of the actor and his partner Suki Waterhouse.

Meanwhile, The Odyssey is rewriting Nolan’s record book. After a giant opening, the film posted an even stronger second weekend — about $90 million domestic — pushing its global total past $700 million in just 10 days and overtaking The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises as his biggest box-office hit to date.
It also topped The Dark Knight’s long-standing second-weekend benchmark of $75 million, a figure that had held since 2008. With a reported budget of $250 million, the movie has already surged to around $330 million domestic in only 13 days.
Critics are all-in too: the film sits at 94% Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, with praise for its ensemble. Key players include:
