Christina Aguilera turned a rare red carpet date night into a PDA fest, dazzling in off-the-shoulder black alongside fiancé Matthew Rutler at the Breakthrough Prize Ceremony in Los Angeles on April 18.

The event
They hit the 12th Breakthrough Prize Ceremony in Los Angeles on Saturday, April 18. Small oddity: April 18 lands on a Thursday this year, so either the day or date in the event notes was off. Either way, they were there, and they were clearly having a good time.
Aguilera, 45, went classic and dramatic in an off-the-shoulder black Salih Balta gown with a vintage bob. Rutler, 41, kept it clean in a black suit. On the carpet, he leaned in and kissed her cheek for the cameras, which is exactly the kind of wholesome stunt I will always allow.
Where they are with the whole marriage thing
They have been together since 2010 and got engaged in 2014, but they have never pretended to be on any kind of deadline. Back in August 2022, a source told Us Weekly that there were no wedding plans and that they were happy as is, not needing paperwork to prove anything. That vibe clearly has not changed.
Summer, the manager-in-training
Aguilera and Rutler share their 11-year-old daughter, Summer, and Christina is also mom to Max, 18, from a previous relationship. And yes, the kids know their mom is a capital-S Star. In a January 2024 chat with Vogue, Aguilera said Summer is obsessed with what happens behind the scenes — the band, the backing vocalists, all of it — and she is angling for drum lessons. She also doubles as mom’s pre-show pep squad when the nerves hit.

On the ride to school recently, Summer apparently announced she wants to be either her mom’s photographer or her manager one day. When will.i.am came to see Aguilera’s Las Vegas show, they told him the story and he joked that Summer is her daught-ager — a term Aguilera has happily adopted because it fits. According to Christina, Summer keeps her on time and on task and has had that protective energy since day one — something an intuitive person predicted before Summer was even born. Now, watching her actually live that out is one of Aguilera’s favorite parts of motherhood.
