Cartoon Network Axes Fan Favorite as Legendary Voice Actor Speaks Out
Cartoon Network is riding a nostalgia-fueled hot streak, reviving fan favorites with a wave of sequels, spin-offs, and returns. From Regular Show and Adventure Time to Steven Universe and The Powerpuff Girls, the network’s icons are back—and reshaping the animation landscape all over again.
Cartoon Network keeps dusting off the classics and giving them new life. Regular Show, Adventure Time, Steven Universe, The Powerpuff Girls — pick a favorite, it has probably gotten a revival, sequel, or spin-off lately. But there is one fan favorite still stuck in the vault, and a key voice behind it is still annoyed about it: Sym-Bionic Titan.
Tara Strong is still salty about Titan
Tara Strong has voiced half your childhood (and probably your kid's too): Teen Titans, The Powerpuff Girls, The Fairly OddParents, Ben 10, Rugrats — the list goes on. Back in 2010, she joined Genndy Tartakovsky's Sym-Bionic Titan, a stylish mech series that burned bright and left fast. It was canceled, then slowly turned into a cult favorite after its finale. Strong was on The Joe Vulpis Podcast recently and made it clear she thought Titan was built for a longer run.
"It disappointed me when that didn't get picked up! It was such an f***ing good show. I loved Sym-Bionic Titan, and I thought it had the same magic as Ben 10."
Hard to argue with her. If you watched Titan, you know it had the goods.
Genndy wants to finish it — but he needs a buyer
Creator Genndy Tartakovsky told ComicBook.com in 2023 that the Titan story is not done on his end. He said there are more ideas already written and mapped out, but the holdup is simple: someone still has to step up and pay to make it. It is not his call, and he cannot just will the budget into existence. He also admitted that, of his past shows, Titan is probably the only one he would actually go back to finish. He has more Primal planned, sure, but he mostly wants to keep moving forward with new stuff.
Where things stand now
Earlier this year, Tartakovsky released a third season of his Adult Swim favorite Primal, which wrapped up the story of Spear and Fang in a surprising way. As of now, there is no official movement on a Sym-Bionic Titan revival.
That does not mean Genndy is idle. He has Motel Transylvania on the way — a TV series set in the Hotel Transylvania universe he helped create — and an original animated movie called The Black Knight in the works at Sony Pictures Animation.
- Cartoon Network revival wave: Regular Show, Adventure Time, Steven Universe, The Powerpuff Girls, and more have all returned in some form after their finales.
- Sym-Bionic Titan snapshot: Launched in 2010, canceled too soon, slowly became a cult favorite.
- Tara Strong's angle: Longtime voice star (Teen Titans, Powerpuff, Fairly OddParents, Ben 10, Rugrats) says Titan had the same spark as Ben 10 and should have continued.
- Genndy's take (2023): The story is not finished; material exists; needs a buyer. Of his past shows, Titan is the one he would actually return to complete, even as he keeps building new projects.
- Current slate: Primal's third season landed earlier this year; no Titan revival confirmed. Next up for Genndy: Motel Transylvania and Sony's original feature The Black Knight.
If someone writes the check, it sounds like Titan could finally get its proper ending. Until then, consider me right there with Tara — this one deserved better.
