Missed episode 6 of the HBO series Youth—here’s what went down.

After the Ibiza chaos in Episode 5, Youth swings back home with Alex and Patrick acting like a couple again — literally walking hand in hand to Sam and Frank’s place to check on Frank after his frightening boat-rave heart attack. Frank, somehow sunnier post-scare, greets them buzzing with new energy, and Alex even jokes about wanting to grow old and die alongside Patrick — a not-so-subtle hint she’s ready to get serious.

That bubble pops fast. A text from Lars asking Alex out lands while she’s chatting with Sam, who needles Patrick for his reaction. His shrug — basically, she should “make the most” of her life — rattles Alex and reopens all the doubts. When Patrick later invites her to meet his friends to talk about Syria, she can’t tell if they’re on the same page and punts on a clear answer.

Meanwhile, Alex is hustling at work. She’s lined up a lunch with author Malcolm, a move that had Sam seriously considering making Alex a junior partner. Over at Sam’s agency, Alex’s son Ruari ditches Frank’s bar job and settles into a desk — in the same office where his mom works — and strikes up an unexpectedly easy rapport with co-worker Plum.

The Malcolm lunch detonates the plan. Their nemesis agent Grayson “happens” to be at the restaurant, swoops in, and Malcolm bails before Sam and Alex can pull him back. Reeling, Sam nudges Alex to go meet Lars anyway. Alex, anxious, accepts a Xanax from Sam and orders a cab.

A single Xanax and a wrong turn in the cab send Alex to the wrong rendezvous — and straight into a showdown.

She dozes off, the driver drops her home, and in the haze she reroutes herself to Patrick’s get-together with his friends. One problem: earlier, Alex had texted Lars her live location. He follows it right to Patrick’s hangout. Introductions are a mess, the room tenses up, and Patrick is mortified. The argument outside is brutal — he says she embarrassed him; she fires back that he’s a man-child.

Back at the office

Alex has also been running a risky side play: quietly courting publisher Camille with a pitch to sign writer Yafa Barghouti, while pretending Sam’s agency already represents Yafa. Camille bites with a deal offer — and Alex’s meeting gets blown up by a call from her dad, who can’t figure out how to turn off his podcast. Unable to reach Ruari, she leans on Patrick for help.

Guilt catches up with her. Alex heads to the agency and finally tells Sam the truth about the Yafa lie. Sam doesn’t mince words and tells Alex to leave. Dejected, Alex returns home to find Patrick sitting with her dad, which softens everything between them. They talk it out; Alex tells him she doesn’t want to see anyone else while they’re together, and they seal it with a kiss.

The win at home comes with a cost at work: Alex’s Yafa gambit puts that potential partner title squarely in jeopardy.
