General Hospital star Cameron Mathison says he’s easing back into romance nearly three years after his divorce from Vanessa Mathison, sharing that he’s dating but keeping it slow and not exactly sold on the app scene, as he told Us Weekly at Jennie Garth and iHeartPodcasts' I Choose Me live summit on April 25.

Cameron Mathison is easing off the dating throttle. The longtime General Hospital star says he dove into apps after his split, got swept up in the novelty, and then realized... yeah, not the vibe right now. He is slowing things way down and focusing on healing, co-parenting, and keeping life drama- free.

The dating-app experiment (and the cool-down)

Mathison, 56, told Us Weekly at Jennie Garth and iHeartPodcasts' I Choose Me live summit on Saturday, April 25, that the app scene was brand-new territory for him. He comes from the go-out-and-meet-people era, so the instant-swipe world felt like a different sport. Early on, he admits he leaned into it hard. Part of that was distraction from a broken heart; part of it was just the novelty of meeting people in a totally new way.

He met a lot of great people and even ended up in something that felt more committed for a minute. But he also realized he was not actually ready for serious, and he has now stepped way back from the apps.

"It was a bit much for me. I need time to heal and do my thing."

Where things stand with Vanessa

Mathison and his wife of 22 years, Vanessa, announced their separation in July 2024, calling it a new chapter approached with love, kindness, and respect. He says it was not his choice to end the marriage, but he is choosing to keep it compassionate and forward-looking. No scorched earth, no airing out grievances.

"It wasn’t my choice that our marriage ended... I love her. I care about her. I want her to be happy in this chapter. I have no place for anger and resentment."

According to him, that mutual support is real in both directions.

The kids notice

He and Vanessa share two children, and he says they can see their parents keeping things kind and steady. As he puts it, they have told him they notice he is working to maintain a beautiful, loving family —just in a different form than before. Grown-up energy all around.

Context, timelines, and a little clarity

Mathison also mentioned he has been single for almost three years. That is his clock, which suggests the separation started well before the public announcement in 2024. Not shocking in Hollywood, but worth noting if you were doing the math and scratching your head.

What he is prioritizing now

When he is not on set or spending time with family, the Health 360 cofounder is trying to keep his head aligned with three simple practices: gratitude, compassion, and acceptance. He was at Garth's event to back a friend, too—he has been on her podcast and says he is all for what I Choose Me is putting into the world.
