‘Call of Duty’ movie could be one call away for Inde Navarrette
An actress says she's only a phone call from doing the Call of Duty movie—so who's waiting to dial?
Two days ago at the Newport Beach Film Festival, Inde Navarrette — the Superman & Lois alum who recently broke out in Obsession — was asked by Collider about the long-rumored Call of Duty screen adaptation. Standing alongside Ray Nicholson, she didn’t hedge about her interest. She said she’s essentially on standby.
“It 's a phone call. It's a text. If they call me, they're like, 'There's a car outside. You gotta go.' Definitely. I'm a big fan. I'm really excited to see what they do. As a fan, I would be excited. I'm a big fan. Yeah. Very excited."
Navarrette has real gamer cred. She’s talked about getting into the franchise as a kid — playing Modern Warfare 2 with her older brother when she was seven or eight — and she streamed on Twitch in the years before her acting schedule picked up, running lobbies of Call of Duty alongside Halo and Red Dead Redemption. She’s said the CoD community knew her first, long before the movie offers did.
The project in play
The film in question has been linked in reports to Taylor Sheridan and Peter Berg, and Nicholson — who worked with Berg on Mosquito Bowl — said it would be an “honor” to team with him again. There’s been no official casting or timeline announced for a Call of Duty movie, but Navarrette made clear she’d jump the second the call comes.
Her ties to the franchise go beyond gaming at home. In July, she sat on a panel celebrating Call of Duty’s footprint in esports, entertainment and pop culture with some high-profile company:
- Tyler Bahl — Activision chief marketing officer
- Kevin Durant — NBA star and CoD playable operator
- Mark Grigsby — Infinity Ward creative leader
During that appearance, a fan surprised Navarrette with a sealed 2009 copy of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, a collectible valued around $1,000.
As for a movie, Activision and the filmmakers haven’t confirmed a cast, start date, or release window for any Call of Duty adaptation.
