At last: Frank Welker names his favorite Scooby-Doo mystery after 57 years
After 57 years with Scooby-Doo, Frank Welker finally tells you which episode is his favorite.
The pick comes from a late-era deep cut: “A Haunt of a Thousand Voices!”, the Season 2, Episode 24 capper of Scooby-Doo and Guess Who? It ’s a meta mash-up that pulls the curtain on the franchise ’s own sound booth — the Mystery Inc. gang heads to a cartoon version of Frank Welker’s Pacific Palisades mansion, complete with a private airstrip and recording studio, and runs into the real-life actors who voice them.
- Matthew Lillard — Shaggy
- Grey DeLisle — Daphne
- Kate Micucci — Velma
- Frank Welker — Fred (and Scooby since 2002)
“So many to choose from but…one I particularly liked was in the last season we did, [Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?],” he told People.
“It was so wonderfully confusing we had no idea who was who and what was what,” Welker added of the episodes’ delightful identity swirl.
Welker has been with the gang since 1969, originating Fred Jones on Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! and, starting in 2002, taking on Scooby himself — a run that now spans nearly six decades and hundreds of mysteries unmasked.
Next up: a live-action origin
On the heels of that look back, Netflix says production has wrapped on Scooby-Doo: Origins, its eight-episode live-action reimagining of how the team first came together. The series is slated for a global release in 2027 (no exact date yet).
Set during Shaggy and Daphne’s final summer at camp, the story kicks off when they stumble on a lost Great Dane puppy who may have witnessed a supernatural murder. Velma and Fred join the hunt, setting the foursome on the path to becoming Mystery Inc.
- Tanner Hagen — Shaggy
- McKenna Grace — Daphne
- Abby Ryder Fortson — Velma
- Maxwell Jenkins — Fred
In a first for the franchise, Scooby will be played by a real Great Dane rather than a fully animated or CGI creation.
Netflix’s eight-episode prequel is due worldwide in 2027, with premiere details to come.
