Andrew Garfield Speaks Out on ‘Artificial’ Controversy
Andrew Garfield has finally spoken about the new home for his film Artificial — and he’s thanked Amazon in the process.
At the New York premiere of his family adventure The Magic Faraway Tree, Andrew Garfield finally addressed the swirl around Luca Guadagnino’s new drama Artificial — and made a point of praising its new distributor. He said he’s grateful to Amazon for developing the movie and for helping it land elsewhere after exiting, and he called its new home at Neon a perfect fit.
“This business is in an interesting place, and I’m fascinated by how things work,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.
“I think it’s (Neon) a really good fit and I’m really excited to release it with them,” he added, calling Neon “a daring studio doing daring films so I’m very, very excited to be partnering with them on it.”
From Amazon exit to Neon
Amazon dropped the film earlier this year — a move The Hollywood Reporter noted came just months after the company signed a deal with OpenAI. After that exit, several major players reportedly passed on the project before Neon stepped in.

Neon ultimately acquired the movie, ending weeks of speculation about where it would land.
What the movie covers
According to Deadline, Artificial follows OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman through the tumultuous events of 2023, when he was abruptly fired by the company’s board and then reinstated days later.
Early word has been mixed. World of Reel reports some viewers found the film thought-provoking, while others felt its deliberate pacing worked against it.
Artificial is expected to premiere at the Venice Film Festival.
