Amazon axes Stargate reboot just months after unveiling, steering Prime Video toward YA romance with Every Year After.

Well, that shut faster than expected. Amazon has pulled the plug on its Stargate TV reboot before it even cleared the ramp.

Per a Variety exclusive, the series has been canceled roughly seven months after it was officially ordered in November 2025. The project had Martin Gero steering as showrunner, and the original film ’s duo Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin were on board as executive producers. Even with that legacy behind it, Amazon is not moving ahead.

If you spent years watching teams dial strange addresses and step through that shimmering ring, this one stings. The whole thing started with Roland Emmerich’s movie starring James Spader and Kurt Russell, which kicked off decades of fandom and TV adventures. A fresh series at a major streamer felt like a sure bet… until it wasn’t.

What was lined up before the shutdown

  • A new Stargate TV series at Amazon, positioned as a reboot
  • Official series order came in November 2025
  • Canceled about seven months later
  • Martin Gero set as showrunner
  • Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin attached as executive producers
  • Variety reported the cancellation as an exclusive

That’s the story: the gate looked ready to open, and then it didn’t. For now, consider it closed.
