A24’s The Guest film catches Sadie Sink’s eye after ‘Spider-Man’ run
A fan-favorite is reportedly boarding A24’s film adaptation of Emma Cline’s The Guest — and the casting choice could turn heads.
Per Deadline, A24 and Square Peg are in exclusive negotiations to nab the film rights to Emma Cline’s novel The Guest, with Sadie Sink attached to star and produce. Lorene Scafaria (Hustlers) is set to write and direct the adaptation, which would mark a return to dark, character-driven material for the Stranger Things alum.
The package pairs Sadie Sink with Hustlers filmmaker Lorene Scafaria, with A24 and Square Peg in exclusive talks to close the rights.
Who’s on board
- Sadie Sink — attached to star and produce
- Lorene Scafaria — attached as writer-director
- A24 — in exclusive talks to back the film
- Square Peg — producing partner
Sink, who broke out on Netflix ’s Stranger Things and drew raves opposite Brendan Fraser in The Whale, has been actively shaping a slate of prestige-leaning projects. Scafaria’s last feature, Hustlers, earned strong reviews and an Oscar campaign run for Jennifer Lopez, making her a natural fit for Cline’s sleek, psychological material.
What the book’s about
Cline’s bestselling novel follows a cunning young grifter drifting through the rarefied social circles of a Hamptons summer, insinuating herself into the lives of the ultra-wealthy as her options tighten. The book drew broad critical praise, including a PEN/Faulkner Award longlist nod, a Belletrist Book Club pick, and year-end mentions from outlets such as The New Yorker, Time, NPR, Vogue, and Harper’s Bazaar.
How it came together
According to Deadline, studios and top talent have been chasing The Guest since publication. Sources told the outlet that Sink, already a fan of the novel, moved quickly when the rights hit the market, attaching herself before bringing Scafaria aboard. Roughly a dozen bidders circled during a heated auction, and the Sink–Scafaria package with A24 and Square Peg emerged on top, putting the companies into exclusive talks to close the deal.
No production timeline or additional casting has been announced. The project is expected to move into scripting once the rights deal finalizes.
