Agatha Christie’s modern mystery series Tommy & Tuppence is getting the BritBox treatment — and you’ll want the who, what, and when before you press play.

A lavish London wedding brings former flames back into the same room — and straight into a whodunit. When a guest is found dead, actress Tuppence Cowley and crime novelist Tommy Beresford, exes who haven’t spoken in about a decade, decide to sleuth on their own after an old friend lands in the crosshairs. She’s just moved back to the city; he’s stuck with writer’s block. The tension between them is as tricky as the case.

Set in present-day London, Tommy & Tuppence folds smartphones, social media and modern dating into classic Christie-style misdirection. The six-episode season is built around three separate mysteries and is billed as the duo’s first modern English-language TV adaptation , aiming to keep the twists while refreshing the romance.

Cast and characters

  • Antonia Thomas — Tuppence Cowley, an energetic actress newly back in London
  • Josh Dylan — Tommy Beresford, a meticulous crime writer battling writer’s block
  • Imelda Staunton — Aunt Ada, Tommy’s formidable aunt and former detective-agency owner
  • Nicholas Richardson — Julius
  • Charlie Condou — Albert
  • Callie Cooke — Detective Sergeant Draper
  • Chizzy Akudolu — Detective Inspector Merriot

Familiar faces pop in as suspects and scene-stealers, including:

  • Sebastian De Souza
  • Sean Pertwee
  • Saffron Burrows
  • Alex Jennings
  • Denise Black
  • Alice Krige

Across the season, Aunt Ada’s old-school know-how nudges the pair through a maze of secrets and red herrings, while working cases together jump-starts Tommy’s stalled career and rekindles that will-they/won’t-they spark. The show takes cues from Christie’s Tommy & Tuppence stories — including nods to The Secret Adversary — rather than retelling them beat for beat.

Behind the camera, writer–executive producer Phoebe Eclair-Powell steers the update. Fergus O’Brien directs the first four episodes, with Ellie Heydon handling the final two. The series, from Lookout Point (part of BBC Studios) in association with Agatha Christie Limited, was filmed around London.
