Matt Damon’s gearing up for his next chapter — but which of his upcoming releases are movie fans most excited about?

The most immediate move on Matt Damon ’s slate is behind the camera: he’s producing the Netflix thriller Animals through Artists Equity. Ben Affleck is directing and now starring after Damon stepped out of the lead because of scheduling. Set around a Los Angeles mayoral race thrown into chaos when the candidate’s son is kidnapped, the film has Kerry Washington, Gillian Anderson and Steven Yeun in the ensemble.

He’s also circling a return to the slick-caper world he helped define. Ocean’s 14 is in active development at Warner Bros., with David Leitch directing and George Clooney and Brad Pitt expected to reunite. Damon is set to reprise Linus Caldwell, the deft pickpocket trying to keep up with ever-smarter security systems and his even-smarter crew.

Universal has staked out November 2027 for Damon’s new, original sci‑fi film with the Daniels.

On Damon’s docket

  • Untitled Daniels/Universal event film — Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (Everything Everywhere All at Once) are writing and directing an original sci‑fi movie with Damon leading an ensemble that includes Sandra Oh, Charles Melton, Michael Gandolfini and Sean Kaufman. Universal has the project planted in the competitive Thanksgiving frame in November 2027.
  • Animals (Netflix) — Produced by Damon via Artists Equity; Affleck directs and stars as a candidate whose family is pulled into the city’s underworld by a ransom demand. Kerry Washington, Gillian Anderson and Steven Yeun co‑star. Release date: TBA.
  • Ocean’s 14 (Warner Bros.) — Damon returns as Linus alongside Clooney and Pitt in a new chapter directed by David Leitch. The goal is the same sleek cons and razor banter of the original trilogy, updated for a higher‑tech heist era.
  • Witness for the Prosecution — Damon is an executive producer on a new take on Agatha Christie’s courtroom thriller about a murder trial built on lies and betrayals. He’s developing the film with Ben Affleck and Jennifer Todd, aiming to bring a modern edge to the classic twisty drama.
  • Flash Before the Bang — As executive producer alongside Affleck, Damon is backing writer‑director J.R. Goldberg’s sports drama about an all‑deaf high school track team in 1980s Oregon. The film emphasizes authentic casting and crew representation while telling a true underdog story.
  • The Green Beret’s Guide to Surviving the Apocalypse — Damon serves as an executive producer on this dark‑comedy series created by military veterans Shawn Vance and Daril Fannin, blending practical survival know‑how with hilariously over‑the‑top doomsday scenarios. Developed through Pearl Street Films.
  • The King of Oil (Universal) — Damon has been attached to play controversial commodities trader Marc Rich in a feature produced with John Krasinski and based on Daniel Ammann’s book. The biographical drama tracks Rich’s rise, globe‑spanning deals and notoriety; it remains in development.

For now, the only circled U.S. date is Universal’s Daniels movie over Thanksgiving 2027, with Animals headed to Netflix and the rest moving through development.
