5 Upcoming Films & Shows Perfect For Scarlet Witch's Comeback To The MCU
We are fairly sure the beloved character has not left the MCU forever.
Marvel's 2021 series WandaVision has captured the hearts of many MCU fans with its stunning aesthetics of different decades of the 20th century, mind-bending plot, and of course, Elizabeth Olsen's brilliant portrayal of Wanda Maximoff, aka the Scarlet Witch. Just like that, the powerful witch, who was previously somewhat on the sidelines of the superhero franchise, has become an internet sweetheart.
So when Wanda took center stage as the main antagonist in 2022's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, ultimately sacrificing herself to save the multiverse in a breathtaking redemption move, audiences couldn't help but feel that the character deserved more.
Wanda's journey has been arguably the most tragic in the MCU universe. She’s been losing loved ones since childhood, and it seems unfair to deny her the chance to reunite with Vision and her sons from Westview in the future.
That's why many MCU fans are convinced the Multiverse of Madness can't be the end for their beloved character. The common belief is that we'll see the Scarlet Witch again in future projects, probably even this year.
While Elizabeth Olsen remains tight-lipped about the possibility of reprising her Marvel role, let's explore five movies and shows where her comeback would be nothing short of perfect.
Agatha: Darkhold Diaries
Expected Release: Fall 2024
A perfect fit for Wanda's comeback is surely a WandaVision spin-off focusing on another original, beloved character, the nosy neighbor turned secret antagonist, Agatha Harkness. The show is set to feature Agatha's struggles to break free from the confines of Westview, a prison imposed upon her by the Scarlet Witch as punishment for her misdeeds in WandaVision.
Despite Olsen's firm statements in various interviews ruling out her cameo in Darkhold Diaries, some hints from the cast suggest otherwise. We guess we'll have to wait until the fall to find out for sure.
Vision Quest
Expected Release: mid-2025
If Wanda doesn't make a comeback in Darkhold Diaries, there's another WandaVision spinoff that will certainly need her presence. Vision Quest is set to follow the journey of Paul Bettany's Marvel character after the events of the parent series.
The original Vision met his demise at the hands of Thanos, but S.W.O.R.D. managed to rebuild him. Now known as the White Vision, he's on a mission to unlock the memories buried deep in his subconscious. Once those memories resurface, it's only natural that he'll long to be reunited with the love of his life, Wanda. And let's face it, it would be too pianful if she wasn't there waiting for him.
Doctor Strange 3
Expected Release: 2026
Given that Wanda's last appearance was in the Doctor Strange movie series, it's only logical to speculate that she could return for the third installment. Even though it has yet to be officially confirmed, rumor has it the movie could be part of the MCU's Phase 6 and hit theaters in 2026. With her witch powers, the Scarlet Witch fits seamlessly into the franchise's magical realm.
Avengers 5 & 6
Expected Release: May 1, 2026 & May 7, 2027
The two-part grand finale of the MCU's Multiverse Saga is shaping up to be a real cameo extravaganza featuring a wide range of heroes from different timelines and universes, both old and new. With this lineup, it seems highly likely that Scarlet Witch, or perhaps her variant, will make a triumphant return, even if it's just for a single scene.
Scarlet Witch Solo Movie
Expected Release: TBA
Last year, several MCU insiders spilled the beans that Marvel had its sights set on a Scarlet Witch solo project, inspired by the 2015-2016 comic book series. But there's a twist. Word on the street is that the movie will center on Wanda's son, Billy aka Wiccan, who is set to be portrayed by Heartstopper's Joe Locke and make his MCU debut in Darkhold Diaries. This means that Scarlet Witch will be a supporting character in her solo project.
Now, that might not seem like the fairest deal for our beloved superhero, but hey, at least it's a confirmation that she's not saying goodbye to the MCU forever, right?
