2027 Super Bowl halftime pick? Jay-Z selects himself over frontrunners like Justin Bieber
Looks like a heavy hitter is poised to take the reins on football’s biggest stage, nudging Justin Bieber and the rest to the sidelines.
After weeks of sounding out other stars, Jay-Z has reportedly circled 2027 as the year he takes the Super Bowl stage himself. Per Puck News, the mogul who’s helped book the show since 2019 weighed multiple options before deciding a Jay-Z-led performance would be the “more compelling” choice. It ’s not official, and neither the NFL nor Roc Nation has confirmed the report, but the scenario would mark a major shift from his behind-the-scenes role to the spotlight.
Roc Nation has co-produced the Super Bowl halftime show since 2019.
Who else was in the mix
The search reportedly focused on a handful of massive names, some of whom were hesitant about the scrutiny that comes with the world’s biggest TV stage. A multi-artist, all-star set was also floated as a fallback.
- Miley Cyrus — considered a leading contender
- Justin Bieber — also high on the shortlist
- Harry Styles — reportedly among the top choices
If a single headliner couldn’t be locked, one backup plan involved Jay-Z anchoring a collaborative show with famous friends. That’s fueled fan speculation about potential cameos, though no guests are confirmed.
- Beyoncé
- Rihanna
- Alicia Keys
Why 2027 lines up
The calendar sets up a victory-lap moment. In 2026, Jay-Z’s Reasonable Doubt hits its 30th anniversary and The Blueprint turns 25. He’s also proven his current live draw: three sold-out Yankee Stadium shows that reportedly brought in more than $42 million.
There’s history, too. While he once said choosing himself early in the NFL partnership would’ve been “selfish,” Jay-Z has since overseen a run of blockbuster halftime sets through Roc Nation, including:
- Dr. Dre (with Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar)
- Rihanna
- Usher
- Kendrick Lamar
For now, the 2027 headliner remains unannounced, and the report of Jay-Z taking the mic is unconfirmed by the NFL, Roc Nation, or Jay-Z’s camp.
