Disney's Snow White Only Has 44% On Rotten Tomatoes, but What Exactly Went Wrong?

Well, almost everything. Except visual effects.
Snow White, a live-action adaptation of Disney's first feature-length animated film, has finally arrived. Marc Webb's film made its way to theaters through reshoots, scandals, and marketing failures that the might of Disney could not overcome.
Analysts are predicting a failure for the movie, and we try to find out if everything is so bad in the reimagining of the story of Disney's number one princess.
What Is Snow White About?
The story of a girl whose beauty is envied by a wicked stepmother, forcing Snow White to run into the forest to live with seven good-natured dwarfs, has its roots in the early 19th century, thanks to the famous fairy tale collectors, the brothers Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm.
Erin Cressida Wilson, who adapted the Disney story for a modern audience, did not change the basics, but added relevant nuances to the original material.
Snow White Changes Some Details of the Original Story
For example, Snow White got her name because she was born in a snowstorm, and the place of the handsome prince called to give the main character a life-giving kiss was taken by the noble robber Jonathan.
The same magic mirror that the Evil Queen regularly turns to for self-esteem only notices the beauty in Snow White after the girl does a kind-hearted thing: she helps the imprisoned Jonathan escape from the castle.
Thus, for the first time, Snow White gains control over her own destiny and sets out on the road to a near-revolution, which, thanks to an incomprehensible script, will end in a fizzle.
Snow White Storyline Is Chaotic And Full of Plot Holes
Inconsistencies and a chaotic plot are one of the main problems of Snow White, which practically nullifies all the efforts of both the director and the actors.
It is the vagueness of the story that prevents Gal Gadot and Rachel Zegler from revealing themselves. The former really plays during the brief moment when she turns into a witch, the latter only shines during the musical numbers.
The other characters, from Jonathan and his team to the seven dwarves, exist only within the framework of necessary functionality.
Snow White Visuals And Special Effects Are Impressive
The artists and animators did their best – the world of Snow White is vibrant and bright, the animals perfectly combine animated charm with the necessary realism, the castle is monumental, and the dwarves' house is thought out to the smallest detail.
The dwarves themselves are fully computer-generated and motion-captured, and look great in close-up, and each one has a memorable look.
New Snow White Is Unfortunately Too Soulless
Snow White proves once again that cinema is a living and extremely sensitive matter, easily affected by external circumstances.
Thousands of variables made working on the movie a hell and promoting it an impossible task, even for such skilled marketers and crisis managers as the specialists at Disney.
During the difficult production period, Marc Webb's project also lost its soul. The fairy tale about good and evil, in which the moral, though outdated, was presented on an intuitive level, was lost behind new meanings.
