Kevin Feige Puts All His Energy Into Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars
Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige has shifted his full attention to Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, stepping back from other MCU projects to ensure these blockbusters deliver. Find out what this means for Marvel’s future.
For the past year, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has set aside his usual packed schedule to focus exclusively on two of the most anticipated superhero films in recent memory: Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. This marks a major shift for Feige, who has long been known for juggling multiple projects across the Marvel Cinematic Universe at once.
According to Deadline’s Justin Kroll, Feige has been laser-focused on these two films, stepping away from his hands-on role with other Marvel properties.
“Feige has been so stretched thin with the TV shows and all these other things, and then maybe doing Star Wars, and all these things,”
Kroll explained during a recent podcast appearance.
“He has been solely focused on this and Secret Wars for, like, a year straight. Like, this has been it. ”
Stepping Back From the Marvel Machine
Feige’s decision to narrow his attention comes after years of overseeing a sprawling slate of movies and series. Last year, he tapped Jake Schreier to direct the upcoming X-Men film, but otherwise, he’s delegated much of the day-to-day work on other projects. Amy Pascal, for example, has taken the reins on the next Spider- Man installment, Brand New Day.
Kroll added,
“He put Jake Schreier on as the director last year of X-Men. Other than that, he’s kind of let Amy Pascal handle a lot of the Spider-Man stuff,”
highlighting Feige’s new, more selective approach.
“So, just know that, people. He’s in London all the time. If that dude has his mind set on just the one thing, like he used to do back in the day with Iron Man or Thor, they turn out good. It’s when he has, like, eight other things, it gets a little tougher.”
High Stakes for Marvel’s Next Phase
While Feige zeroes in on these two Avengers films, the rest of the MCU continues to move forward. Projects like Wonder Man and the second season of Daredevil: Born Again are still in the pipeline, but Feige’s involvement has been noticeably less direct. The pressure is on for Avengers: Doomsday to deliver, especially after Marvel’s 2025 releases, Thunderbolts and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, failed to match the box office success or cultural impact of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.
The Fantastic Four reboot, in particular, struggled to maintain its top spot on Disney Plus, quickly losing ground to the comedy sequel Freakier Friday after just a week. These recent stumbles have only heightened expectations for the next Avengers chapters.
Countdown to Doomsday and Secret Wars
Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters on December 18, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars following almost exactly a year later on December 17, 2027. As Marvel fans look ahead to these blockbuster releases, many are eager to see if Feige’s renewed focus will recapture the magic that made earlier MCU films such massive hits. In the meantime, audiences can keep up with the rest of Marvel’s Phase 6 as the studio continues to expand its universe with new movies and shows.
