5 Most Surprising Star Cameos in Doctor Who You Might Have Missed

All the familiar faces you didn't notice.
Doctor Who is a true legend in science fiction. The series began in 1963 and has delighted viewers for decades. Many have watched it since its return: on March 26, 2005, Doctor Who was rebooted, resetting the season numbers.
Over the past 20 years, Doctor Who has featured many charismatic actors. Let's remember which stars appeared in the show before they became famous.
1. Andrew Garfield – Daleks in Manhattan, Evolution of the Daleks
If you watch the early seasons of Doctor Who now, you may be surprised and pleased to see several A-list stars on screen. And they were in the show before they became famous.
This is what happened with Andrew Garfield. He is now a Golden Globe winner and two-time Oscar nominee. Drama fans love him for The Social Network, comic book fans love him for The Amazing Spider-Man. But until 2007, Garfield had only managed to appear in little-known series, and then he was invited to do Doctor Who.
Garfield played a simple man named Frank from the 1930s. Together with his character, the Tenth Doctor and Martha try to stop the Daleks of the Cult of Skaro, who have decided to create the first hybrid of their race and humans.
2. Simon Pegg – The Long Game
Simon Pegg is one of the rare actors who has made it to the sci-fi trifecta, appearing in Star Wars, Star Trek and Doctor Who.
In Doctor Who Simon appeared as a villain. In The Long Game, the Ninth Doctor and his friends end up on a space station with 600 channels. The station is run by the Editor, played by Pegg.
3. Kylie Minogue – Voyage of the Damned
There are characters in Doctor Who who only appear in one story, but fans remember their involvement for years. This is exactly what happened with Kylie Minogue's character. She appeared as Astrid, a waitress on the interstellar cruise Titanic, who immediately became close to the Doctor.
This character's story ended tragically. But as in the world of Doctor Who all rules and deaths can be cancelled and changed, fans dream of Astrid's return.
4. Bill Nighy – Vincent and the Doctor
The Golden Globe and BAFTA winner, who starred in Love Actually, took part in one of the most beautiful and touching episodes of Doctor Who.
The actor appears as the curator of the museum where the main character takes Vincent van Gogh. Nighy's character gives a touching speech about the genius of the artist.
The cameo has an interesting backstory. Even before the show returned to our screens in 2005, there were rumors that Nighy had been invited to play the lead role – the actor himself confirmed this information.
The story does not end there. Later, in the episode The Day of the Doctor, another museum curator was played by Tom Baker – the former Fourth Doctor. Because of such coincidences, some fans decided that Nighy's character is one of the future regenerations of the main character.
5. Olivia Colman – The Eleventh Hour
The future star of The Crown and The Favourite starred in Doctor Who at the beginning of her career. Olivia Colman's role turned out to be less interesting, but very frightening.
The Eleventh Hour is the first full-fledged appearance of the Eleventh Doctor, not counting the finale of the previous episode with the regeneration. In this episode, the hero tries to track down Prisoner Zero, who is hiding on Earth.
At some point, the monster begins to impersonate humans, but it cannot tell one person from a group. Thus, Colman's character actually shares one consciousness with the children whose hands she holds.
